About Me

Early on in my painting career I hit on a familiar monochromatic style of portraiture. The paintings shown here are an example of this style. They register the extremes of dark and light tones using primarily one light source. Although partly shadowed, faces show and express a pensiveness with an urge to communicate through thought and feeling.

Although characteristic and stylised they became a sort of trade mark for me but the development of my life led my journeys to France.  There amidst the vineyards, lavender fields and olive groves my work was to change in its very nature, now using full light and colour. I found a need to present my own feelings in an expression of my own personal reaction to the experience.

Painting is fundamentally a discipline when spending days with great periods of concentration and without any correspondence from the outside. Its easy to become a little insular and introspective. To live in a dreamstate. So one tries to remain pragmatic with sufficient enough attachment to deal and cope with it.
